A very wealthy man was a very generous man who loved to cultivate merits. He had been a fund-raiser for a temple for 10 years and had built so many buildings for Buddhism. However, his life changed when he turned 60 years old when suddenly he wanted to start a cock fighting business, which he ran for 20 years. Until he was 86, he had intestinal cancer and passed away. What caused him to run this business? Where did he go after he passed away? DMC has the answers.

The Bachelorette

Every first Sunday of each month and on the days the temple had big ceremonies; and every time I attended the ceremony of offering sustenance to the Lord Buddha and of other big merit of the temple, I made wishes “May I own a house with land and a car.” Later on, my grandfather bought me a car when I did not even ask him for it. And a couple surprised things that happened to me. All my wishes were accomplished. This incident seriously strengthens my faith in merit.

Aunt Choop was the daughter of one of Luang Pu’s closest friends. She had the opportunity to help with the funeral for Luang Pu’s mother. She had always made desserts and offered the desserts and alms to Luang Pu. As soon as she learnt that Uncle Laum and Aunt La Aw would donate the land for the construction of the Memorial Hall of Phramongkolthepmuni, she promptly announced that, “ If you do it, I have to do it, too.” After Aunt Choop donated the land, she had been looking forward to the completion of the Memorial Hall.
